MANATEE — Unemployment in Manatee County and Florida continues to worsen.
Manatee County’s unemployment rate reached 11.8 percent in June, an increase from 11.2 percent in May, according to new labor statistics released by the state today.
In June 2008, the county’s unemployment rate was 6.6 percent.
Before the current recession, the highest unemployment rate recorded in Manatee County was 10.4 percent in February 1983.
Meanwhile, Florida’s unemployment rate jumped to 10.8 in June, up from 10.1 percent in May. Sarasota County’s jobless rate iwas 11.4 percent, up from 10.9 in May.
