No IDs on two young men shot and killed in Manatee Friday night

MANATEE — Sheriff’s investigators worked Saturday to positively identify two young men shot and killed on a street southeast of Bradenton Friday night.

Believed to be a gang-related crime, the shooting took place when a car pulled up behind the two young men, who were walking, and people in the car opened fire, witnesses told detectives.

One man was dead in the street, in the 1100 block of 59th Avenue Drive East. The other was rushed to Manatee Memorial Hospital, and there pronounced dead.

A report from Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube Saturday described the men as between the ages of 17 and 25.

Said Steube: “Detectives continue to investigate what they believe was a gang-related crime.”

Witnesses told deputies they thought the car with the shooters was possibly a Mercury Grand Marquis, possibly blue.

The shooting took place at about 9 p.m.

Anyone with information on this double homicide is asked to contact the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime stoppers at 866-634-TIPS.
