Late night storm damages trees in Manatee

MANATEE — Between midnight and 2 a.m. last night, Manatee County was buffeted by 40 to 50 mph winds which downed trees and took out a transformer in eastern Manatee County.

Heather Hedgecock, shift captain of Manatee County’s 911 center, said a funnel cloud was sighted on Dock Street near Port Manatee by a caller but could not be confirmed.

“We had a frontal type boundary moving across the state and showers and thunderstorms formed along it,” Richard Rude, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Ruskin.
