BRADENTON — Alabama economic development professional Eric Basinger has been selected to succeed Nancy Engel as executive director of the Manatee County Economic Development Council.
The Manatee Chamber of Commerce announced today that the board appointed Basinger to take over the position starting June 1, when Engel will step down from the position.
Engel has served as executive director of the Economic Development Council for 25 years, and announced in September her desire to leave the position.
Engel will continue to work with the EDC as a team member.

“After a national search and in-depth discussions with Eric, we are convinced he will effectively lead our economic development efforts in this very challenging time,” Bob Bartz, president of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release. “We are grateful that Nancy is going to stay on with the EDC as a team member, focusing on business retention and workforce services, and be available to facilitate Eric’s introduction to the community and the region.”
