Police, deputies arrest suspect in Bradenton shooting death

BRADENTON — Bradenton Police and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested the suspect in a homicide that occurred Thursday morning.

Jerry W. Green Jr., 22, was taken into custody at about 5 p.m., an employee at the Manatee County Jail said. BPD officers and deputies served warrants during the arrest.

The fatal shooting of Alex Dawson took place inside a home at 1510 10th St. W., Bradenton.

Upon arrival, officers located Dawson with what appeared to be two gunshot wounds, according to a news release from Bradenton Police Department Major William Tokajer. Dawson was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg where he was pronounced dead at 3:33 a.m.

This isn’t the first time Green has been accused of murder.

He was arrested in 2007 for allegedly killing Christopher Jenkins, 25, after the two got into a fight April 8 at Club Nitros in Palmetto. Jenkins was killed in the 600 block of Cortez Road. He was shot in the back four times there, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s detectives.

Prosecutors were forced to drop the case due to a lack of cooperation by witnesses, said Assistant State Attorney Garrett Franzen.
