Suspect stunned, hurt during chase

MANATEE — A Bradenton man who ran from deputies was injured after hitting his head during a fall when deputies shot him with a Taser stun gun, according to a sheriff’s report.

At 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies went to arrest Claude Kite, 39, on an aggravated battery charge in a mobile home park in the 5300 block of 14th Street West.

As deputies tried to arrest him, Kite started running and was shot in the back with a Taser stun gun, the sheriff’s report said. After being shot with the stun gun, Kite fell, hitting his head on a wall of brick pavers, according to the sheriff’s report.

Kite was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and charged with resisting arrest without violence.

Man faces DUI charge

MANATEE — Authorities arrested a man Tuesday morning on a DUI charge after he took deputies on a vehicle chase in the Palmetto area.

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Joseph Branch, 29, on numerous charges after the 20-minute chase that started in the Palmetto Point neighborhood at 50th Street West and ended in the 3200 block of Palmview Road, when Branch ran over stop sticks placed by deputies and crashed.

A sheriff’s report said when deputies pulled Branch over at 11:43 p.m., he initially stopped, but took off as a deputy approached his car.

Just after midnight, Branch ran over stop sticks placed in the road by deputies and ran from his car. He was quickly captured hiding in the backyard of a nearby home, the report said.

Deputies arrested him on charges of DUI, aggravated fleeing to elude, resisting arrest without violence and driving with a suspended license.

Girl molestation charge

BRADENTON — A Bradenton man has been arrested on a molestation charge after the mother of a young girl said he inappropriately touched her daughter, according to a Bradenton Police Department report. Oscar A. Castaneda, 33, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of lewd or lascivious molestation. The victim’s mother said she caught Castaneda molesting her daughter April 11.

The victim’s mother said Castaneda later asked her what happened because he couldn’t remember. The mother of the victim, whose age was not listed, said Castaneda had been drinking all day prior to the alleged molestation.

Man accused of robbery

BRADENTON — A 31-year-old man was arrested on robbery charges Tuesday night by Bradenton Police after he allegedly took another man’s wallet, according to an arrest report.

Aaron Nathaniel Lovelace of Bradenton allegedly approached another man in the 800 block of 18th Avenue West and told the man it was his turn to be robbed, according to the report.

The victim told Lovelace he had only $10. Lovelace allegedly grabbed the man by the neck and pulled him down toward the ground.

The man and a friend told police they followed Lovelace while on the phone with 911, according to the report.

When the man’s friend confronted Lovelace, the friend was reportedly punched in the face. The man’s friend held Lovelace on the ground until authorities arrived.

Lovelace remained in jail on charges of robbery, battery and possession of drug paraphernalia on a $300,120 bond Wednesday evening.
