Man robs Palmetto bank by passing note

PALMETTO — A man wearing and cap and sunglasses, and described as lean, muscular and in his 20s or 30s, robbed First Bank at U.S. 301 North and Haben Boulevard just before noon Wednesday and walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber passed a note to a teller, according to Palmetto Police Department Deputy Chief Mike Mayer. No weapon was shown, and no one was harmed.

A sheriff’s dog tracked the trail of the robber for about 100 yards onto the property of a restaurant, but then lost the scent, Mayer said.

The robber’s baseball cap was black with a Tampa Bay Rays’ logo, witnesses said.

Anyone with information to help law officers can call Palmetto Detective Chris Cavazos at 723-4587 ext. 124.
