MANATEE — Crime in Manatee County increased in 2008 over 2007, but only slightly, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement reported today.
Manatee County had an increase in crime of 0.4 percent in the categories of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft and motor vehicle theft in 2008.
This comes after a 3.8 percent decrease in crime in 2007, compared to the previous year. The increase in crime was reported in unincorporated Manatee County, with all city agencies in the county reporting decreases in crime.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported a 2.4 percent increase in crime, with spikes in robberies, burglaries and thefts.

Crime reported by the Bradenton Police Department dropped 5.1 percent, and the Palmetto Police Department reported a 4 percent decrease, according to the FDLE report.
