MANATEE — The U.S. Postal Service announced today it will be shifting originating mail processing and distribution operations from the Manasota Process and Distribution Center in Tallevast to a facility in Tampa, beginning Oct. 1.
The move will affect 59 employees, who could be offered open positions at other postal facilities.
According to a press release, Suncoast District Manager David Patterson said mail service in Manatee County will not be affected.
“As is the case with the Postal Service as a whole, the Manasota (facility) has been experiencing a decline in mail volume, and the Tampa (facility) has underutilized capacity,” Patterson was quoted as saying in the press release. “This consolidation will contribute toward the Postal Service’s goal of increasing efficiency and improving productivity.”
