BRADENTON — Manatee County’s unemployment rate surged again, this time hitting 11 percent in February from 10.2 percent in January, according to new employment figures released by the state today.
Manatee County’s jobless rate is the 12th highest in the state and the highest since February 1983 when it was 10.4 percent.
Sarasota County also saw its unemployment rate rise to 10.6 percent over 10.2 percent in January.
Both counties are above the state and nation’s unemployment rate.

Florida has a 9.4 unemployment rate through February, and the United States reached.
The United States’ unemployment rate is also at its highest since 1983.
Manatee County’s unemployment rate accounts for 15,944 people who are without jobs and Sarasota County has 17,782 who are jobless.
