MANATEE — The engine of a Greyhound bus caught fire as it traveled from Sarasota to Bradenton Tuesday afternoon, but the 15 passengers escaped without major injury.
The bus, with flames shooting high above the rear engine, pulled to the side of the street near the intersection of 30th Avenue East and 12th Street Court East. Smoke filled the bus, witnesses said.
South Manatee Fire Rescue responded and treated two passengers at the scene, one for chest pain and one for smoke inhalation. None of the passengers was taken to a hospital.
The call to firefighters came at 3 p.m.
