MANATEE — A caregiver at a local nursing home to developmentally challenged patients has lost her job and been arrested on a charge of neglecting two patients.
Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Leticia Odessa Peay, 35, on Saturday on two counts of neglect of two patients at North West Care Center, in the 800 block of 71st Street Northwest.
Sheriff’s reports say Peay took two patients, ages 51 and 65, from the care center to a basketball game at Southeast High School. Once at the game, Peay left the game, leaving the men unattended in the gymnasium.
A Southeast school volunteer saw them alone and called sheriff’s deputies. When deputies arrived, they found the men “confused,” reports said.

Peay came back to the school an hour after deputies arrived and said she thought another North West employee was coming to pick up the men. Peay also gave deputies a fake name at first and was later found to be wanted on a warrant once her name was discovered, sheriff’s reports said.
In addition to two charges of neglect of a disabled person charges, deputies also arrested Peay on an outstanding warrant and on a charge of giving a false name to a law enforcement officer. She was being held in the Manatee County jail on $12,120 bond.
