MANATEE — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Manatee and Sarasota counties until noon today.

Radar indicates a line of showers and thunderstorms is moving east at 50 mph that will affect Anna Maria Island, West Bradenton and interior parts of Manatee.

The heaviest storms will hit the county prior to 9 a.m., with winds gusts possible of 40 to 50 mph. Minor damage to trees and power lines is possible, and torrential rains will cause ponding of water on roads, the weather service reported.
