Wanted: Suspect in credit union robbery

MANATEE — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office today released a photo of a man suspected of holding up a credit union Monday morning.

The photo showed a middle-aged, heavy-set man with unshaven face and graying, short-cropped hair.

The photo was taken at a Ross department store across Fifth Street West from Florida Central Credit Union, according to the sheriff’s office. The credit union was robbed about 9:45 a.m.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call (941) 747-3011, ext. 2555, or Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS.

Witnesses to the credit union robbery said a man in his 50s rode a bicycle up to the financial institution in the 4500 block of Fifth Street West, entered the building, and told a teller he had a gun.

After the teller handed over cash, the man fled on the bicycle south through the parking lot, then northbound on Fifth Street West, a sheriff’s report said.
