MANATEE — Hostess Brands Inc. will lay off 17 workers at its wholesale facility on Tallevast Road as part of a downsizing plan that will ultimately axe 509 positions in 34 Florida locations.
The local workers will lose their jobs between July 7 and July 21, according to the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications. Many of the company’s retail outlets also are facing layoffs. Hostess Brands has an especially concentrated presence in the Jacksonville area, records show.
Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January, and executives have said their primary focus is to emerge as a viable company.
“However, it is possible that, despite our best efforts, certain events may occur that would require Hostess to sell all or portions of its business and/or wind down its operations and liquidate,” Hostess’ Chief Human Resources Officer Christopher Knipp wrote in a letter to state officials.
