Romeo Santos is the hottest act in Latin music right now. In fact, there are few hotter acts in any genre of pop music than Santos.
If you're a fan, you're probably already making plans to attend his concert on Friday at Amalie Arena in Tampa.
Santos, who's often called the "King of Bachata," this year set the record for most nominations in the Billboard Latin Music Awards. His 21 nominations are more than any other artist in the history of the awards.
He's such a big deal that he sold out two consecutive shows at Yankee Stadium. Rolling Stone called him one of the hottest acts of in 2014 and the New York Times said his was one of the year's best concert tours.
His stardom has recently transcended the music world. He made his acting debut in "Furious 7," the hit action movie that came out a couple of months ago. He starred alongside Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and the late Paul Walker.
If you don't follow Latin music you might not understand Santos' "King of Bachata" moniker. Bachata is a genre of music, with lyrics that deal with romance and heartbreak, that was born a century ago in the Domnican Republic and has evolved as it spread through Latin America. Santos, who was born in the Bronx, became a prominent figure in bachata with his band Aventura and became and even bigger star when he began his solo career in 2007.
