One of Bradenton's favorite bands and one of the area's favorite summertime events come together this weekend.
The popular Friday Fest on the grounds of Sarasota's Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall kicks back in this weekend. It's a great way to enjoy the Florida sunset while you take in some great local music.
For the first Friday Fest of summer, the music comes from Kettle of Fish, an area band that covers classic songs by the likes of Little Feat, the Rolling Stones, the Neville Brothers, the Allman Brothers Band, Otis Redding, Cream and Jimi Hendrix, plus some straight-up blues. They do a lot of original material too, which they describe as a blend of rock, blues, reggae and New Orleans soul.
There will be lots of food and beverages available from vendors at Friday Fest. You can't bring coolers, tents or beach umbrellas, but you can bring lawn chairs and blankets if you're so inclined.
The show goes on rain or shine. If it rains, which is not unlikely this time of year, Friday Fest will move indoors to Van Wezel's Grand Foyer.
Details: 5-9 p.m. June 19, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: Free. Information: 941-953-3368, vanwezel.org.
