When you think of 1980s music, or even '80s fashion, you pretty much have to think about Pat Benatar.
She was ubiquitous on radio and on MTV back then, with her classically trained soprano voice sparking a phenomenal string of hits, including "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Love Is a Battlefield" and "We Belong."
At her side the whole time, personally and professionally, was her guitar player and husband, Neil Giraldo. They met when she hired him for her debut album "In the Heat of the Night" in 1979, and they married three years later.
Benatar is no longer topping the charts -- and she's unlikely to be sporting her trendsetting haircut, headband and Spandex pants -- but she's still touring and making occasional albums. These days Giraldo gets equal (or at least second) billing on the tours, and on Tuesday Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo will come to St, Petersburg for a concert at the Mahaffey Theater.
It's billed as their 35th anniversary tour. It's been 36 years since they made their first album together and 33 since they married, but calling it the 35th anniversary is, as the saying goes, close enough for rock 'n' roll.
Details: 7:30 p.m. May 19, Mahaffey Theater, 401 First St. S., St. Petersburg. Tickets: $45-$85. Information: 727-892-5767, themahaffey.com.
