The Local Group of Deep Sky Observers, a Bradenton/Sarasota group of astronomy enthusiasts, is pleased to announce their next Sidewalk Astronomy event. On Saturday, February 12th starting at 6:00 p.m., and continuing until 10:00 p.m., the members of the Local Group will (WEATHER PERMITTING) set up their high-quality telescopes in the south parking lot at Main Street at Lakewood Ranch, 8100 Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. The highlight objects of the evening will be the planet Jupiter and the first quarter Moon. Attendees can expect incredible close-up views of these and a variety of other celestial objects as they become visible throughout the night. As always, the Sidewalk Astronomy event is FREE and open to all. Looking ahead, Sidewalk Astronomy will again be held on March 12 at Lakewood Ranch Main Street, and on April 23 we are trying out a new location --at the Holmes Beach City Hall on Anna Maria Island.
