Easter Seals Art Initiative and Cutting Edge

ArtCenter Manatee is pleased to present the art work of members of the Easter Seals Art Initiative and the VIP program January 11 – 28, 2011. Easter Seals Southwest Florida's Art Initiative program was created to provide artistic expression and independence for adults with disabilities. The Vocational Introduction and Preparation (VIP) program is for young adults ages 14 -22. Many of these artists live with limited mobility and intellectual challenges. Art Instructor & Ringling College graduate Karen Davenport guides and directs the artists with their skills while Occupational Therapist Larry Henry assists them with adaptive tools as they create art. Since most of the artists receive a limited disability income, selling their work enables them to earn extra money while building their self-esteem. The artists work in various mediums such as acrylics, pastels, watercolors, and colored pencils. Subject matter ranges from abstract to realistic landscapes, still life, and collage. Accompanying the Easter Seals Exhibit is “Cutting Edge”, an open, juried all media show that encourages the artists to stretch the boundaries of their imagination and artistic abilities. Come see the fascinating results when creative minds take it to the limit. The suggested donation for the exhibit is $5. Our hours are 9 AM – 5 PM Monday, Friday and Saturday and 9 AM – 6 PM Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Closed on Sundays. For more information call 941-746-2862 or visit our website at www.artcentermanatee.org. Opening Reception: Thursday, January 13 5 – 7 PM
