Manatee Community Foundation Announces Grant Awards

The Manatee Community Foundation announced grants totaling over $77,000 to 18 local non profit organizations. The largest single grant of $11,000 was a contribution to the Season of Sharing Fund which provides emergency assistance support for people in Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte Counties.

Executive Director, Marilyn Howard, explained that the grant was matched by a contribution from the Patterson Foundation, doubling its return for Manatee County. A used truck for the Manatee Players, a pallet jack for the Food Bank of Manatee County, summer camp scholarships for children in the Guardian Ad Litem program, and funds to bus over 1,600 Manatee County Title I students to the Van Wezel performing arts hall for an opportunity to experience “live” theater are just a sampling of the wide range of grants. Howard explained that a Grants Committee made up of community volunteers and MCF Board members reviewed 57 grant applications. Additional funding for many of the grants was provided by individual MCF Donor Advisors who direct money from their funds to help close the funding gap between requests and dollars available for grants.
