During January, the Asolo Theatre Playreader Peformers will entertain audiences with free performances at three Manatee County Library branches. The Playreaders are part of Asolo’s non-profit, educational outreach program, Access to the Arts, which enables thousands of students and teachers in Southwest Florida to study and see live, professional theatre –many for the first time.

All events are free and seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis. There is no advance registration required. The performances are made possible through funds raised by the library's Friends support organizations. Monies raised by the Friends go toward programs and services that tax dollars alone cannot provide.

Braden River Branch Library PeformanceThe Friends of the Braden River Branch Library will welcome the Asolo Theatre Playreaders on Saturday, January 16, at 10:30 a.m. The troupe will present “ALL IN THE TIMING," a pair of one-act comedies by award-winning contemporary playwright David Ives. The audience should prepare for a lively time as Ives' plays combine wit, intellect and satire --along with a sizable helping of just-plain fun. Light refreshments will be served starting at 10:00 a.m., and the Friends will hold their Annual Meeting immediately prior to the program. The Braden River Branch Library is located at 4915 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton, Florida. Central Library PerformanceOn Tuesday, January 26, the Asolo Playreaders will appear at the Central Library, performing "GILBERT & SULLIVAN REVISITED" at 2:00 p.m. in the library's Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Central Library.

The performance will be a musical look at such plays as “The Pirates of Penzance,” “HMS Pinafore,” “The Mikado,” and others. For 25 years starting in 1871, W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan collaborated on these and eleven other “comic operas” –featuring preposterous situations accompanied by memorable melodies.
