Several Bradenton residents competed in local qualifying for the 2009 U.S. Open, which will be held June 18-21 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. Byron White and Ville Vaisanen tied for 10th at 6-over 77 on Wednesday at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor. Other local finishers included Patrik Sterner (81) and Peter Sterner (87). U.S. KIDS TOUR The U.S. Kids Golf Foundation will conduct two single-day events in Manatee County; the first is June 26 at The Links at Greenfield Plantation, followed by July 10 at River Wilderness CC. The events consist of nine age groups for boys (from ages 6-14) and eight for girls (ages 7-14). Parents are encouraged to serve as caddies for the players. The format is a front nine scramble and back nine modified chapman Saturday followed by best ball Sunday. The entry fee is $125 and includes two rounds, range balls, prize purse and awards luncheon Sunday. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. June 23. The field is limited to the first 40 teams. On May 9 at Pinebrook/Ironwood, Nord Dietz aced the 124-yard fifth hole with an 8-iron. Witnesses were Bob Guerette and Jan Dietz. On May 9 at Serenoa, Bob Channell aced the 154-yard 15th hole with a 7-iron. Witnesses were Bob Woods, Robert Twiss and Patrick Murphy.
