Capt. Josh Peurifoy on Tuesday afternoon said the grouper bite had been on fire about 7 miles offshore over an artificial reef.

He was simply using shrimp on a jighead and sending it to the bottom.

Remember that for gag grouper, the minimum size limit is 22 inches in total length, the bag limit is up to two within the five grouper aggregate, and the closed season is February and March in state waters (less than 9 nautical miles offshore) and federal waters (beyond 9 miles). For red grouper, the minimum size limit is 20 inches, the bag limits are one per person in federal waters and two per person in state waters within the five grouper aggregate.

Charter captains and crew have a zero bag limit and circle hooks, dehooking and venting tools are required for Gulf reef fish.
