PORT CHARLOTTE - The Marauders (19-27) fell 5-4 in 10 innings to the Charlotte Stone Crabs (26-20) on Monday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The Stone Crabs won the season series 11 wins to eight. Bradenton trailed 4-3 into the eighth inning, but Taylor Lewis hit his league best ninth triple to put the score even at 4-4. The Marauders threatened in the ninth and 10th, with Willie Argo denying the Marauders a run with a diving catch on an Ashley Ponce line drive to left with Ngoepe at third after a two-out triple in the final inning. Emmanuel De Leon (L, 2-2) returned for a third inning in the 10th, and surrendered a leadoff double to Alejandro Segovia. After intentionally walking Kes Carter, the Marauders retired Segovia at third on a fake bunt, slap ground ball to Gift Ngoepe at shortstop. Jeff Malm pinch hit for Charlotte and pulled a 2-1 pitch into right field. Willy Garcia could not corral the ball to throw home as Carter raced in to score. Nate Garcia (W, 3-3) earned the win for the Stone Crabs with 2 1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out Stetson Allie looking in the eighth to keep the score tied with Lewis at third. Starting pitchers Robby Rowland for Bradenton and Felipe Rivero for Charlotte each struck out five and surrendered two runs over five innings of work. Ponce went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in on infield singles. Allie went 1-for-5 with an RBI. D.J. Crumlich reached base four times for the Marauders, walking, singling, and hitting a double. Jake Hager had a run-scoring double and Drew Vettleson drove in two on a two-bagger for Charlotte. The Marauders host the Palm Beach Cardinals for a doubleheader Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. Adrian Sampson will start game one for Bradenton.
