Normans go 1-2 in 2A-3 high jump
Bayshore High sisters Joy Norman and Alexus Norman swept the high jump competition Thursday at the Class 2A-Region 3 track and field meet in Orlando.
Joy Norman, a senior, won the event with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches, in rainy conditions. Alexus Norman, a sophomore, came in second at 5-0.
The top four finishers in each event advanced to the state meet May 1 in Jacksonville.

The Southeast boys 400-meter relay team punched its ticket to state by winning its event. Derrick Bradley, Daniel Billy, Tyler Stevenson and Keith Timmons finished in 43.06 seconds.
The Seminoles will also send discus thrower Johnelle Clark and their girls 400 relay team to state. Clark finished third with a toss of 102-11, and the relay team of Priscilla Miller, Jasmine Williams, Mirline Valcin and Marline Valcin came in third in 50.85 seconds.
CLASS 1A-REGION 3 -- Saint Stephen's Paige Lindsay won a region title in the 200 dash and advanced to the state meet in two relay events at Clearwater Calvary Christian.
Lindsay finished the 200 dash in 25.65 seconds and will be joined May 1 at state by teammate Janae Murrell, who came in fourth (26.59).
The Falcons also won the 400 relay in 49.57 and placed third in the 1,600 relay. Murrell, LeNae Jones and Paige and Jane Lindsay were on the 1,600 relay; a complete list of members was unavailable for the 400 relay.
The Falcons placed fifth as a team with 56 points. St. Petersburg Admiral Farragut won with 115 points. The Bluejackets also won the boys meet with 90.5 points.
The area's only other region champion was Cardinal Mooney's Cal Davidson Turner, who claimed the 1,600 run in 4:26.56. Davidson Turner also placed second in the 3,200 run (9:48.65).
Other state qualifiers from the area included Out-of-Door Academy's Tre Gregory (second, pole vault, 13-0), Saint Stephen's Andrew Zandomenego (third, 300 hurdles, 41.67), Cardinal Mooney's Sean Morris (fourth, long jump, 20-6), Saint Stephen's Jordon Murrell (fourth, 200 dash, 22.93), Saint Stephen's Kaitlyn Siegel (second, high jump, 5-2, and fourth, triple jump, 34-10) and Saint Stephen's Janae Murrell (fourth, 100 dash, 12.89).
MANATEE -- The Hurricanes' Class 8A-District 8 final against Riverview was postponed by rain. It will be played at 7 p.m. Friday at G.T. Bray park.
