Bayshore weightlifter Jamar Johnson made sure of his trip to the state meet this year by winning his weight class at the Class 1A-District 8 meet Thursday.
Johnson lifted a total of 520 pounds in the 169-pound weight division to place first and earn an automatic trip to the April 18 state meet in Kissimmee.
Johnson tied for the final qualifying spot last year but lost a tiebreaker because he weight three-tenths of a pound more than his opponent.
Cardinal Mooney boasted a district champion in Dillon O'Neill (238).

The winner of each weight class earned a trip to state. Lifters who placed second through fourth will be placed in a pool to determine nine at-large berths to state.
Bayshore's David Lopez (139 pounds) placed second with a total lift of 430 pounds. Heavyweight teammate Lyndon Bernard was third with a total lift of 575 pounds.
CARDINAL MOONEY 7, LAKEWOOD RANCH 4 -- Tyler Mattes hit a two-run home run, and Gage Schrantz knocked in two more runs as the host Cougars (16-5) got past the Mustangs.
Parker Shanahan went 3-for-3 for Cardinal Mooney. Mattes and Schrantz each had two hits. Josh Bonynge pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out six, for the win. Alex Rodman allowed a run in two innings for the save.
Shane Zipperer led Lakewood Ranch by going 3-for-3.
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 2, BOOKER 0 -- Hunter McGarry's double drove in Wade Carter and David Hinkel with two outs in the sixth inning, lifting the host Panthers to a victory over the Tornadoes.
McGarry was 2-for-3. Carter earned the save on the mound and went 2-for-3 from the plate for BCS (11-9).
A.J. Schewe earned the win for the Panthers, lasting six innings and giving up four hits, walking three and striking out six.
