Mooney upends ODA for coach's 100th win
Parker McPhail tossed a two-hit shutout to cool off the Out-of-Door Academy baseball team and get Cardinal Mooney head coach Greg Mulhollen his 100th career victory Tuesday in Sarasota.
The Cougars (7-4, 3-2 Class 3A-District 10) won 1-0 behind McPhail's six-strikeout, two-walk performance against the Thunder (8-2, 5-1).
Cardinal Mooney scored its run in the fifth inning. Gage Schrantz walked, moved to second on a bunt and to third on a passed ball before coming home on a Dean Visaggio single.

BAYSHORE 2, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 0 -- Kanobby McCarty tossed a no-hitter as the Bruins upended the Blazers. Chase Richardson and D.J. McCarty drove in runs for Bayshore.
LAKEWOOD RANCH 6, RIVERVIEW 5 -- Alex Gutowski's two-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Brendan Lewellen from second base to give the Mustangs a non-district victory over the Rams.
Shane Zipperer led Lakewood Ranch (8-3) with three hits. Connor Hetterich and Colton Chupp each added two hits and two RBIs.
Caleb Jackson got the win in relief, allowing two unearned runs and three hits over 2 2/3 innings. Starter Colton Zimring allowed one earned run and five hits, striking out five in 4 1/3 innings.
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 8, SAINT STEPHEN'S 2 -- Hunter McGarry went the distance for the visiting Panthers, allowing one earned run and three hits while striking out 10 in a Class 3A-District 10 victory.
David Hinkel went 3-for-4, and Jake Lister had two doubles and three RBIs for BCS (5-6, 3-1). Tyler Lyke and McGarry each had two hits.
Middle school: Saint Stephen's win the middle school matchup at BCS 6-3 behind two hits and two RBIs from Ross Springstead and two RBIs from Ben Schnur. Max Runde picked up the victory, and Noah Font got the save for the Falcons (3-1).
PALMETTO 4, MANATEE 0 -- Auria Mounts allowed just two hits and struck out 12 to lead the visiting Tigers past the host Hurricanes at G.T. Bray park.
Jordan Whitaker and Kendall Vedder each contributed two hits and an RBI for Palmetto (5-4).
JV: The Tigers took the junior varsity contest, too, 6-4. Claire Strickland got the triumph on the mound, and Jordyn Petty was 2-for-3.
SEFFNER CHRISTIAN 9, SAINT STEPHEN'S 3 -- Alex Baroncelli and Lindsay Barton got the only hits as the visiting Falcons (3-6-1) fell to the Crusaders.
SAINT STEPHEN'S 6, CARDINAL MOONEY 1 -- Nani Forcano won a three-setter over Luke Horan at No. 1 singles and teamed with Russell Berdusco for a doubles win as the visiting Falcons (6-0) defeated the Cougars.
Berdusco, Neo Cho and JP Descheneaux won singles matches for Saint Stephen's. Henry Howell and Noah VanDyke won a doubles match.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 7, ST. PETERSBURG ADMIRAL FARRAGUT 0 -- The host Thunder (7-3) had little trouble with the Bluejackets (5-4), collecting straight-set victories from singles players Josh Samuels, Connor Krug, Philip Chiritescu, Jake Krug and Matt Jones.
Samuels and Connor Krug combined for a doubles victory as did Chiritescu and Jake Krug.
SAINT STEPHEN'S 7, CARDINAL MOONEY 0 -- Zlata Uzdenova, Danning Feng, Claudia Usubillaga, Annie Brey and Grace Mooney won singles matches for the visiting Falcons (5-0).
MaryAnn Rompf and Uzdenova won a doubles match as did Isadora Rosso and Mpho Cho.
