It just wasn't to be for the Manatee High football team on Friday night in Apopka.
The Hurricanes dropped a 45-14 decision to the Blue Darters in the Class 8A state semifinal, suffering their first defeat since the season opener in Georgia.
Apopka (10-4) scored on its second and third possessions to take a 14-0 lead and led 24-0 at halftime and never let Manatee (12-2) get closer than 17 points.
The extent of Manatee's offense came from quarterback Sloan Drummonds and Kelvin McKnight. They hooked up on two touchdown passes, one from 47 yards out and the other from 46 yards away.
Never miss a local story.
Apopka will play for the Class 8A state championship on Dec. 13 in Orlando.
