BRADENTON -- The Manatee High football team is headed to Apopka for Friday night's Class 8A state semifinal. The Hurricanes left just before 2 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. game, which represents its fifth state semifinal in the past six seasons.
Manatee stands 12-1, the winner of 12 consecutive games since a Week 1 loss at Ware County, Ga. New head coach John Booth joins Joe Kinnan as the only coaches to take the Hurricanes to a state semifinal.
Apopka is 9-4. The Blue Darters are seeking their third consecutive trip to a state final.
The winner of Friday night's game advances to the Class 8A state final to meet either Pembroke Pines Flanagan or Miami Columbus on Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
