The Saint Stephen's girls 200-yard freestyle relay won a championship and advanced to the state meet Saturday at the Class 1A-Region 3 meet at North Shore Aquatic Center in St. Petersburg.
Ellie Berdusco, Kristi and Lauri Schleicher and Kristen Brockett won in 1 minute, 41.23 seconds.
The top two individuals and winning relay team in each event advanced to the state meet Saturday in Stuart. Individuals who place between third and eighth are eligible for a wild-card berth when state seedings are announced Sunday.
Berdusco advanced to state in the 200 freestyle, finishing second in 1:53.77. She almost certainly will advance to state in the 500 freestyle and with the 400 freestyle relay team. She finished third in the 500 freestyle in 4:59.23, and the relay team was third in 4:42.00. Brockett and the Schleicher twins joined Berdusco in that relay.

If both relay teams advance, it will mark the first time Saint Stephen's has advanced a pair of relay teams to state in the season season.
Lauri Schleicher finished fifth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 butterfly for the Falcons.
Also Saturday, Out-of-Door Academy set several school records, though the Thunder did not get any automatic qualifiers to state.
The top ODA finisher was Joie Eckhard, who placed seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:00.61) and eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:21.99). Eckhard, Imola Csendes, Reece Whatmore and Kate Patrice placed eighth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:58.46).
School records were set by Zach Szmania (200 individual medley, 2:20.40; 100 breaststroke 1:12.40), Patrice (50 freestyle, 56.37), the girls 200 freestyle relay (1:49.01), Charles Hayes (100 backstroke, 1:02.41)
CLASS 2A-REGION 3 -- Bayshore's T.C. Smith won a title in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:40.61. Other results of the region meet at in Clearwater were unavailable at press time.
