WAUCHULA -- An opportunistic Bayshore team went into hostile territory and claimed its first victory of the season.
The Bruins (1-6, 1-2) edged Wauchula Hardee 17-14 in a Class 5A-District 13 game.
Bayshore forced five turnovers, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
"It's a tough place," Bayshore head coach Elijah Freeman said about winning in Wauchula. "We knew it was a tall order."
Chase Richardson had the winning score, breaking four tackles on a 25-yard run with four minutes remaining in the game.
Richardson also connected with Cody Linderman on a 60-yard touchdown pass.
"That was huge," Freeman said. "Much-needed win."
Freeman said it has been a long, grueling season and can be tough to keep the team motivated. But he is hopeful the Bruins will get a boost from Friday's victory.
