Braden River’s football game at Sarasota Booker for Friday night has been postponed because of weather.
Braden River Athletic Director Matt Nesser said he received a phone call from officials at Booker who decided to call the game because impending bad weather.
“They wanted to be proactive. They were looking at the forecast and said the lightning was a factor,” Nesser said. “I don’t know if their field doesn’t drain well, but I think it was the lightning more than the rain that caused them to make their decision. It’s their game and their decision. The weather report is bad.”
Nesser said he didn’t know if the game would be made up. Both teams play Thursday night of next week, making a Monday game unlikely.
“We will discuss things after the weekend and see if we can find a date to make the game up,” Nesser said.
Because it is not a district game, the schools are not required to reschedule. However, both teams have an open date on Oct. 17.
