The scoop: Braden River defeated Southeast for the first time last year, taking advantage of five turnovers by the Seminoles on the way to a 31-14 victory. You figure the Noles won't turn the ball over as much this time, but the Pirates are a lot better and Southeast is struggling. ... Linebacker Dyron Williams, the Noles' best defensive player, returned last week after being out for medical reasons and should help along with defensive end Ryan Eberly. .... Braden River's offense has been rolling along behind the arm of QB Jacob Huesman and the legs of RB Carlos Crawford. Huesman, a junior who is starting to look like a Division I prospect, has thrown for 357 yards and six touchdowns with one interception, completing 26 of 44 passes (59 percent), while Crawford is averaging 7.5 yards per carry (263 yards) with three touchdowns. Justin Ross is the Pirates' top receiver. ... Southeast has hurt itself with turnovers and poor special teams play. QB James Thomas has been the heart and soul of the offense with his running and passing. ... Southeast will have to take better care of the ball to have a chance.

The scoop: Lakewood Ranch lost in double overtime to Tampa Jesuit and is looking to get back on track for district play and archrival Braden River next week. ... Chad Rex, who could be the best dual-threat quarterback in the area, threw for two touchdowns and ran for another last week. He has two good receivers in Trevor Losada and Brenden Hadley. ... The season has be a struggle for Bayshore, which has scored only six points in its two games and has allowed 57. ... Jamar Johnson was the one bright spot for Bayshore last week rushing for 81 yards on 12 carries and scoring the Bruins' only touchdown against Sarasota in a 24-6 defeat. Things don't figure to get much better against a Mustangs team that can put points on the board in a hurry.
