The annual Archie Griffin Celebrity Golf Classic was held Tuesday at the Concession Golf Club in East Manatee. The event raised more than $100,000 for the Concession charities and the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County. To date, the event has raised roughly $500,000. The winning team didn't consist of a past Ohio State Buckeye football great, though. Former Michigan star Leroy Hoard teamed with Sherry Cassidy, Chelsea Mokary, Jon McLean and Louis Altman to produce the winning score of 56. They were tied with former Ohio State standout Keith Byars' team, but won on a match-of-cards tiebreaker. Byars' group consisted of Kim Cornetet, Lindsey McPherson, Jen Elsholz and World Golf Hall of Fame member Hollis Stacy.

Howard edged Erik Barnes, who played the Web.com Tour last season, by one shot for the first-place prize of more than $1,100.
Lakewood Ranch alumnus Danny Walker notched his fourth top 10 this season for the University of Virginia men's golf team. Walker lifted the Cavaliers to a fifth-place showing in the John Burns Intercollegiate held in Kaua'i, Hawaii, recently. Walker posted back-to-back 2-under par 70s for a 2-under par 214 total for the 54-hole event that wrapped up Friday, Feb. 19
