TAMPA - The Marauders (32-56, 6-14) were swept in a doubleheader at Steinbrenner Field on Saturday night, falling 10-0 and 3-2 to the Yankees. The loss extends the Marauders losing streak to seven games.
Bradenton plated two early runs in the second game of the twin bill, but the bats fell silent. The Marauders went hitless over the final six innings of the game. Gary Sanchez doubled in Taylor Dugas with two outs in the eight to win the game. Dugas reach on an error by Zac Fuesser (L, 3-2), the fifth Bradenton error of the game.The Yankees exploded for nine runs over their final two turns at bat in game one, turning a 1-0 thriller into a route. Peter O’Brien and Yeral Sanchez each hit three-run homers for Tampa. Alex Rodriguez went 0-3 with two strikeouts against Robby Rowland (L, 3-7) and Emmanuel De Leon. Each pitcher struck the rehabbing third baseman out looking, and Rowland hit him with a pitch.
Pat Ludwig started for the Marauders in game two and tossed five innings, allowing only one run. Ryan Beckman pitched two innings and allowed an unearned run in the sixth to tie the game.Jose Osuna hit a double in each game of the doubleheader. Stetson Allie had two hits in the first game to run his hitting streak to five, but it was snapped in an 0-for-3 second game.The Marauders and Yankees square off in game three of the series at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
