Braden River High defeated Naples-Palmetto Ridge 31-28 Friday during its final football game of the season in Naples.
The Pirates clinched the victory with a 32-yard field goal with two seconds left in the game by Mike Unzicker.
Braden River got touchdown runs of 10 and 2 yards from Deon Taylor and scoring passes of 10 and 2 yards from Steven Ross.
CLASS 1A STATE MEET -- Saint Stephen’s freshman Ellie Berdusco set a pair of school records in the girls state meet at the Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.
With a school record 4:53.69, Berdusco took fifth in the 500 free. She also placed sixth in the 200 free with a school record 1:51.33.
In boys’ competition Cardinal Mooney’s Matthew O’Donnell placed second in the 100 back (0:53.46) and 10th in the 500 free (4:40.10). Teammate Christian Rauch placed 14th in the 100 back (0:55.08) and 19th in the 500 free (4:51.62).
LAKEWOOD RANCH 3, PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE 0 -- The Mustangs earned their third consectutive shutout and improved to 3-1 on the season. Aubrey Riggins netted a pair of goals for Lakewood Ranch. Angelica Rigo added a goal, while Audrey Reinisch, Kailin Baglman and Tyler Gordon recorded assists.
PALMETTO 6, BOCA CIEGA 0 -- Nikki Postma scored two goals, and Idaly Paniagua, Sam Waggoner and Yasmine Montufar each added a goal as the visiting Tigers (2-1) blanked the Pirates. Goalie Ashton Knopf earned the shutout, and Ashlyn Schellenbarger and L.B. Keogh added assists in the victory.
BRADEN RIVER 2, VENICE 1 -- Matt McNab scored a goal and Fabio Vasconcellos added the game winner with five minutes to play Thursday as the host Pirates improved to 2-0-1 overal land 2-0 in District 7A-10 competition. The Pirates scored their goals in the second half in the comeback win, and goalie Eric Stolman added two key saves late in the game.
PALMETTO 8, BOCA CIEGA 0 -- Javis Pantiague scored four goals for the visiting Tigers. Hunter Brown, Erick Andradd, Spencer Dieuzonne and Eliseo Gonzalez each added a goal.
Leo Vega, Dani Morales and Daniel Martinez combined for the Palmetto (1-0-1) shutout.
