Florida is in the midst of starting another boom cycle. A big problem looms ahead!
Who's going to do the work? Contractors are squirming to find qualified workers. Why? Too many people sitting on the porch in a rocking chair waiting for the next government check to arrive.
No, it has nothing to do with the color of one's skin. Our government is to blame for giving away money, and EBT cards to people who can still work and can find work. We have millions in our country who are collecting disability checks that can move around much better than this writer in his seventh decade.
Our education system in this country is a disgrace to our society. Why? They expect every child coming out of high school to go to college. Wrong!
Never miss a local story.
These students or 34.1 percent who are not heading for college are swimming around wondering what to do. Answer: More schools teaching trades like welding, electrical, plumbing, carpenters, beauticians, truck drivers, clerical, etc.
The course would be funded by the government, but has to be paid back without any exceptions unless death or total disability. No sitting on the porch, no breathing someone else's air while others are paying him or her to do nothing.
Nobody gets out of high school without a diploma regardless of how long it takes them. When our education system sends these kids out on the street without a diploma, they are going two places: jail or the porch. Either place is costing taxpayers billions.
The average Florida salary of most construction jobs is $37,000 gross, without labor unions.
Wake up, America, and force these political leaders to put people back to work. Over 27 percent of our population over 18 are not working and that percentage does not include retirees. We are talking millions of people who are living on government programs. There is a better way!
