Donald Trump is a lot like a naughty boy, saying and doing outrageous things. The media and the political right seem fascinated by this reality TV star who isn't held accountable for what he says and does.
He is not funny anymore. He is dangerous because he appeals to people's fears and at the same time encourages people to be as uninhibited as he is. He gives us a titillating message that rules of being polite, fair and "saying the right things" are for losers, boring.
The political right has been flirting with dangerous ideas for a while now, particularly on minority and immigration issues. Due to Trump, virtually all of the candidates have had to up their rhetoric. Are we really advocating using "drone strikes against undocumented workers?" Are we really advocating arresting city mayors who have undocumented populations in their cities? Are we really saying we will build a Berlin-like wall and make Mexico pay for it?
This is not the America I love. This does not reflect Christian values that founded this country. Donald Trump's moment of silliness and fame should be over. Dump the man and get serious about solving the real problems that need addressing to make America great. Maybe he should take his messages and character to Comedy Central, although I don't think they would find him funny either.
