Take Stock in Children Manatee begins a new school year supporting scholarship recipients and mentors. Take Stock provides scholarships to deserving Manatee middle and high school students. The rigorous application process leads to successful scholarship students and that equals a successful program.
Each scholarship student must maintain a 2.5 GPA, remain drug free, display good behavior and meet with a mentor once a week. If students follow these guidelines, they receive a four-year scholarship. Take Stock in Children Manatee has a 96 percent high school graduation rate. The dedicated mentors are the major reason for our successful graduation rate. Each mentor guides the student toward a successful high school graduation.
During each application period, we receive about 250 qualified applicants and can afford to select only about 10 percent. We have mentors ready and eager to mentor, but we don't have the funds to support more students. Each four-year scholarship costs about $10,000.
Every dollar we raise is matched by the Florida Prepaid Scholarship Foundation. For the first time, we are part of the Giving Challenge noon Sept. 1-noon Sept. 2. As first-timers to the Giving Challenge, on-line donations up to $250 will be matched by them too.
Take Stock in Children Manatee has the unique opportunity to have Giving Challenge donations between $25 and $250 quadrupled, which means phenomenal opportunities for us to provide "Scholarships, Mentors, and Hope" to many more students. This means more deserving students will be awarded scholarships and matched to wonderful mentors from our community.
This community can make this happen. Please donate, volunteer as a mentor and visit takestockmanatee.org for more information.
