I just returned home from Colorado Springs and, after reading your editorial about the wonderful renovations to our Central Library, took a visit. You are right. It is impressive. What you neglected to point out, however, is that there is no "progressive library system" that "embraces all audiences" when a library is closed.
Our Central Library is still only open six days a week, for a total of 48 hours, and half of those days it closes at 5 p.m. By comparison, Colorado Springs has 14 library branches, each of which is open 68 hours a week.
I'm sure I'll soon be again reading about zoning changes and whether developers pay their fair share of taxes. What I hope I'll read, though, is more about the level of services in this county. We need that discussion.
