We used large mesh nets in roe season, which filtered out most of the male and small females to live and continue to produce. But the smart people knew more than those of us who had fished here more than a 100 years.
There were trucks here every day hauling these fish to markets all over the country as a food staple. That market was also destroyed by the gill net ban.
