I am so glad to read that our entire Board of County Commissioners is behind the effort to save Long Bar Pointe from destruction. This is such an important part of Sarasota Bay, and especially important to our entire local fishing industry, since the low waters, seagrasses and mangroves of all of Sarasota Bay are vital to the survival of the next generation of sea life in our bay and beyond.
It is difficult for me to believe that anyone would even propose such destruction of our waters solely for personal gain, as in the present development being proposed. I certainly hope that our board will continue to fight against this plan and any others in the future that arise that would spell the demise of the fishing industry in this area.
Sparkling waters, sandy beaches, and delicious seafood are what brings thousands of tourists and residents to our area, and it is also what will keep them here in the future; not to mention the environmental folly of fouling our own nest for the sake of greed, if we don't take care of what we have.
