I was quite distressed early Sunday evening as I came west on Manatee Avenue and noticed first that the American flag on the east side of the Judicial Center was not flying at half-staff in honor of Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day.
As I proceeded further west it was apparent that there was a total disregard for this day and those men and women who died so that this flag could fly over a free country. The flag in front of the old Courthouse was hanging limply and again not at half-staff.
Was the significance of this day lost on Manatee County government or just a case of "it's on a Sunday and no one will notice?"
Well, this proud American, daughter of a career service Navy veteran, noticed and I am not pleased!
Never miss a local story.
