Thank you, thank you, Joan Krauter, for sharing your heartfelt narrative about your precious dogs. Your sentiments are especially timely this month, when families come together to celebrate the season.
In the United States 47 percent of households own either a dog or cat, totally 83.3 million dogs and 95.6 million cats. Clearly, dogs and cats are members of our families in this country!
This December, those of us active in the rescue community urge all pet owners to cherish and protect their pets, just as you did for Joey and Scout and you continue to do for your rescue dog, Lewie.
Besides love, the best gift we can give our pets are safety and health. Ensure that your cat or dog wears their required pet license tag and for added safety, have your pet microchipped. This small gesture will keep them out of the county shelters and rescues. Keep them healthy and support No Kill Manatee by having them spayed or neutered.
If you are lucky enough to be adding a furry friend to your holiday gift list, be sure you understand the commitment you are making. Dogs and cats are not something to be re-gifted.
When you are ready to find your forever friend, please Opt To Adopt. An estimated 2.7 million healthy shelter pets are not adopted each year, and only about 30 percent of pets in homes come from shelters or rescues.
No Kill Manatee depends upon adoptions and virtually all breeds, ages, and sizes of dogs and cats are available through our shelters and rescues and easily accessible at www.petfinder.com.
Joan's dogs made her smile and Manatee United 4 Pets wants to share that joy. If you can't adopt, foster. If you can't foster, volunteer. If you can't volunteer, donate.
To the world you are just one person; to a rescued animal, you are their world.
