On Sept. 13, the residents of Wares Creek were awakened to an early-morning house fire in the 600 block of 21st Street West. Because motor vehicles were parked on both sides of Sixth Avenue West, two of the three emergency vehicles responding to the fire were unable to get through.
As would seem natural, my neighbors and I are concerned in the extreme. Thanks to the quick actions of an off-duty firefighter who saw the smoke and awakened the residents, no injuries were incurred.
I respectfully suggest that parking be permitted on one side of Sixth Avenue West, this to extend from the corner of Sixth Avenue West and Virginia Drive to the corner of Sixth Avenue West and 25th Street West.
Signs reading, "No parking this side" on one side of Sixth Avenue West would help to ensure emergency vehicles (of all types) would have unimpeded access to the people in need of their assistance.
Never miss a local story.
