My opinion of local city officials has been drastically changed by my dealings with them over a couple of days. There were two guys from Bradenton's landscape division in our neighborhood who were trimming the trees that hang over the streets.
I asked them if they would trim the ones on our street, and they said they were going to do all the streets in our neighborhood.
After a few days I noticed they were not trimming any more. I called the City of Bradenton main office and talked to the nicest young man, who directed me to the correct department. I talked to (Mrs. or Miss) Markie from the landscape and grounds division, and she answered my questions and then took my name and address to have it done.
I thought well maybe they'll get it done in a month or so. Well, the very next day the doorbell rang and it was Tim from their office and he explained that they would be back to finish up soon. He was as nice as the others, and it was so refreshing to deal with people who actually like their job and doing things right.
Never miss a local story.
On the other hand, I called the street paving department at the end of last year to request paving of the street in front of Seabreeze Elementary School, the area over the bridge that makes cars drive in the other lane if traffic is clear coming from the north. I was told they would check on it as the area where there were children was the most important.
Well, I guess the streets out east are more important than the kids here. Two out of three isn't bad. Long letter but wanted people to know we have lots of people in our local government who do care.
