Having spent this year in Volusia County working on my son's campaign, I have been too busy to closely follow Manatee politics. After receiving numerous phone calls, I feel compelled to clarify the untrue statements made by Carol Whitmore.
Of course, Whitmore will do anything to get elected. She is a perfect "career politician."
I was chair of the Republican Party (Manatee Republican Executive Committee) from 1992-2004 with a two-year gap. Whitmore has publicly stated numerous times that Pat Glass was thrown off REC because Glass nominated Democrat Gwen Brown for chair of the county commission.
That is false and I have no idea where Whitmore gets her misleading information. In 1996, Whitmore was a Democrat so I am so astounded that she would profess to be an authority on Republican procedures!
Never miss a local story.
Pat Glass was not a member of the Republican Executive Committee so she could not be thrown off in 1996. Glass would just visit occasionally during her re-election year. She did join for a couple months in 2001 because REC was considering endorsing all races. Glass told me she feared we would endorse her opponent, then an REC member.
In 1996, Glass was not a member. All Republican county commissioners were simply sent a letter of admonishment, showing our disappointment in their vote for a Democrat when there were six Republican choices for them. REC donates and works for Republicans and 72 percent of the REC members voted for the resolution.
No county commissioner has ever been thrown off REC. We work for you at no cost to you.
Carol Whitmore needs to stop distorting the truth and, yes, I am extremely offended!
