The recent primary election resulted in a run off for one school board position. The candidates are Mary Cantrell, former director of Manatee Technical Institute, and Julie Aranibar, sitting school board chairperson.
The signers of this letter are two former elementary principals and district administrators who retired before the present superintendent and staff was hired into the district.
We will cast our votes for Mary Cantrell on Nov. 4 because we believe she is the best choice for our students and teachers. Here is why:
Effective leadership: During her 18 years as MTI director, Dr. Cantrell transformed this large, complex school into one which is nationally recognized for excellence in curriculum and in the achievements of the students.
Never miss a local story.
Community collaboration: Dr. Cantrell successfully involved business leaders in the development of quality career and technical programs to meet the employment needs of Manatee County. Her experience with community involvement will be a valuable asset to our School Board.
Vision: Her vision of blending technology into the education of 21st century students is evident in the new facility on State Road 70 and the satellite facilities on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and other locations.
Ethics and core values: Mary Cantrell has run and is running a clean, positive campaign, a quality sorely missed in today's political climate. As an experienced educator, students are her first priority and teachers are held in high regard.
School Board conduct: As a School Board member, Dr. Cantrell will act as a problem solver and collaborator, not as a divider or manipulator.
Dr. Cantrell led MTI on a journey from good to great. She can do the same for our school district. We urge you to join us in voting for Mary Cantrell for School Board on Nov. 4.
