Why democracys fail: We as citizens fail to do our part: VOTE.
The official results for Manatee County show that only 43,337 of 210,334 voted. That means 79.4 percent failed to fulfill their responsibility to vote.
Not just voting is important but being an informed voter is critical.
I am a poll worker here in Manatee County and during my tour of duty it is most discouraging. Citizens make comments like "I don't know anything about some of these candidates" and ask "Can I leave some blank?"
Never miss a local story.
The future education of the children of our county is and was at stake. I believe that who we elect could make a big difference in the current trend of being the best school district in Florida.
Please evaluate both candidates fairly and decide. Ensure you understand why they are running.
What do they understand about the role of being a part of a governing body? Do they understand the role of management of a school district?
Have all candidates been residents of their respective districts for a period of time before this election? Do they endorse and support the new five-year "Strategic Plan"?
What would they do differently to make this a first-class district that we can be proud of?
Please do your research and do your duty and vote in November.
